In her opening keynote April 15 in Las Vegas, Lunden will speak about the importance of health and wellness and caregiving support in the workplace. Lunden is best known for her nearly two-decade stint as co-host of Good Morning America. She has since served as a special correspondent for the Today show and as host of the CBS series Your Health. She also advocates for caregiving support and brings this experience to her role as the spokesperson for the senior referral service A Place for Mom, a company that helps caregivers and families find the right care and resources for their loved ones.

As a member of the sandwich generation, Lunden has faced caregiving responsibilities for both her children and her parents. She knows how important support from employers is to caregivers, and she will urge HR and benefits professionals to consider the issue during her morning keynote session.

Lunden’s appearance will coincide with her upcoming book, Why Did I Come Into This Room? A Candid Conversation About Aging, due for release in March. Signed copies of her book will be available at the conference.

“Employee caregiving is one of the biggest issues facing employers, costing them millions each year in employee turnover, presenteeism and absenteeism,” says Kathryn Mayer, HBLC chair and benefits editor at HRE. “Benefits that aim to help employees with caregiving responsibilities are a hot trend and are being demanded by employees like never before, yet many employers are slow to offer the right support. Having Joan Lunden speak about this important workplace and benefit issue—and share her own experiences—will be extremely valuable and enlightening for HR and benefits managers.”

Lunden joins a robust Health & Benefits Leadership Conference—to be held April 15-17 at the Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas—that will spotlight some of the hottest trends and issues facing HR and benefits professionals. Some of the other mainstage events will include a panel on how part-time and gig workers are influencing employers’ benefits packages and a keynote address from James Klein, president of the American Benefits Council, who will discuss what benefits and HR professionals need to know about benefits policy in a presidential election year.

The conference will feature eight new and reimagined tracks—all aimed at addressing some of the biggest challenges facing HR and benefits leaders. They include:

  • Hot benefits to attract and retain talent
  • Rethinking healthcare in changing times
  • Keeping employees engaged
  • Helping employees boost financial health
  • Improving employees’ overall wellbeing
  • Being a better benefits leader
  • Staying compliant
  • Tech solutions that work
